Bunnydrums
Simulacra/PKD

Losing Today
Bunnydrums might not have been a commercial success when they were together but the group was a major influence for Goth and wave bands that followed them through the 80¹s and beyond. The PKD/Simulacra collection is overdue to say the least. This is not a Œbest of¹ collection per say. Rather, it¹s a reissue of their 1984 PDK album with selections from the Holy Moly album and the Feathers Web EP. Issued by industrial label Metropolis seems an unlikely match as this band was closer to new wave with obvious parallels to Joy Division, Gang of Four and Echo and the Bunnymen. Another influence is a vague affection for early Clash. Some highlights are the punk-funk ŒUgh¹ as well as the title track from Holy Moly. ŒShiver¹ is very post-modern with a mechanical atmosphere which is akin to Gary Newman whereas ŒSwitchblade¹ harnesses a ŒPeter Gun¹ driving punk guitar vibe. On nearly every song lead singer David Goerk shows us where ex-Sex Pistol, John Lydon got his post-punk voice for Pubic Image Ltd..
During Bunnydrums sex-year existence they didn¹t receive the praise they deserved. Maybe with this compilation, they finally will.
