Bunnydrums
PKD/Simulacra

Born out of the Philadelphia punk rock scene in the late 1970ıs when three members of The Boneheads and Joe Ankenbrand, drummer from The Autistics came together, The Bunnydrums quickly generated their own brand of music, fusing elements of Punk, Ska, New Wave & Psychedelia to create a very unique and artful sound. Metropolis have released and re-recorded this near-complete 19-track showcase of the Bunndrums short yet explosive career. While Bunnydrums only lasted for seven years they shared the stage with the likes of Pere Ubu, REM, Bauhaus, Tuxedomoon, Gang of Four, and The Cult. Ankenbrand also brought a fascination with Phillip K Dickıs writings to the band, adding themes of futurist paranoia to singer David Goerkıs schizophrenic lyrics and manic vocal style (reminiscent of Jello Biafra & early Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke). What struck me while listening to this album was the ultra-cold yet razor sharp musicianship that Bunnydrums spit out at the unsuspecting listener. Where were these guys in my formative musical years while I was bent on the likes of The Cure, Visage, and Echo and the Bunnymen? Iım hoping that PKD/Simulcra will inspire a second wave of fans that will have to content themselves with Bunnydrums recordings as a testament to a totally under-rated band.
